What We've Been Up To

Well, this has been a crazy month, and of course the shortest one of the year!  We've had a lot to do to get ready for our move.  Well, I should say that mostly Aaron has had a lot to do.  I have been staying busy in other ways!

Aaron will be graduating this Tuesday from technical training.  He has spent the past few weeks scrambling from building to building all over base to get signatures, paperwork, briefings, appointments, etc, all while trying to do homework and study for tests after a long days at school.  The biggest challenge was that for almost everything he had to do, he first needed to get his official written orders saying that he was going to Okinawa.  He couldn't get the orders until I had my medical clearance.  We had a bit of trouble getting that, but after many persistent phone calls and tears we finally got it and Aaron was able to get everything done.  We have a few details to wrap up this week before we leave, but we're feeling pretty good!  Aaron has done well in his classes and will graduate at the top of his class.  He can't wait to get out of there.  It seems like especially in these past few weeks he has been incrediblly aware of his spiritual enemy.  But as Ed Young says, opposition is a sign of your position, God is about to do something big in your life!  So we are excited and encouraged to continue to experience God's many blessings in our lives!

Over the past couple of weeks I have seen blessings in different ways!  As some of you know I love to sew, particularly quilts and bags.  I have a little shop on etsy.com where I sell my bags.   A few weeks ago my sister, Kendra asked me to make a messenger bag for her to use at school.  It was the first time I'd made a bag like this and the first time ever working with canvas.  I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it!

I posted a picture of it on facebook and got another request for a bag from my friend Tiffany.  She wanted one like Kendras except themed with the colors of her business brand.  She is a professional photographer--Riant Photography.  She had some really fun requests for her bag, asking for lots of dimension and artistic detail.

So, when I was finished with her bag, I put a picture on Facebook and got three more requests!

Not all of the requets have been for messenger bags, but I don't care!  It's been so fun to work on these custom projects and create things that are one-of-a-kind made for just that person!  I enjoy this so much more than I thought I would, and it's my hope and prayer that God will continue to bless me with orders even after we get to Japan.  Of course I'll have to take a little break while we're getting things settled, but as soon as possible I'll be rearin' to get started!

Our flight out of Dallas is booked for March 17th.  Until then Aaron will be working for a recruiter in De Soto, TX.  I will probably be getting all of our stuff together and ready to move.  We also still need to sell our Jeep.  His parents have agreed to try to sell it for us if we're not able to get rid of it before we go, but we're hoping we can get it off our hands!

In less than three weeks we'll be on our way to Okinawa!  It will go by so fast.  Please keep us in your prayers!

Khursten, I am so excited for you and Aaron! I am certain that you will enjoy Japan very much! I hope that you truly will continue to make bags and sell them even from there and the best part is that you will have so many unique fabrics at your disposal over there! :-) I can't wait to see your posts on here, on your etsy and on facebook! I am glad that you've been getting so many requests for your bags and though you will definitely need a break while you are transitioning I know you will get more and they will be just as gorgeous as the ones you've already made! I really love the little money folder envelopes you made! It's a gorgeous set!
